Tips for more professional sound when recording video? Im an amateur videographer, and a few friends of mine and i want to start a video blog. What are the most popular options when you have multiple people that are the focus of the video and need to use multiple mics? I just HATE how camcorder mics make voices sound, but then i guess you cant expect miracles from a multidirectional mic like that. |
Yes, camcorder mics aren't much good. Most video pros have some way of adjusting the level of the audio. Some pro type camcorders have audio adjustments and microphone inputs built in. Others like to use an external mixer and a separate boom mic.
If you don't need to be too mobile a neat & cheap setup is to connect the camcorder video out to a DVD recorder and then connect your mics to a small mixer. Then connect the mixer's "tape outs" to the DVD recorder's "audio line in". That way you have control over the audio level and the results are great. All you need is a cheap DVD recorder and a cheap mixer and a mic or two and you are all set.
There are also fairly inexpensive wireless mics for camcorders that have a mic input:

What is a good quality digital camera for blogging? I'm looking for a nice digital camera under or around $200 for the purpose of blogging (as in wordpress, blogger, etc). I'm trying to get a blog which will be based around the daily photos I take despite the fact that I'm not really a photographer but only doing it for fun. Any cool features like video would also be great but mainly I'm just looking for something I can take quality pictures, and that will hopefully hide my total amateur abilities.
Thanks guys! |
| anything 3.2 megapixels or higher will suffice. optical zoom is better than digital zoom. |
Why are all these mainstream outlets like CNN and Yahoo heavily criticizing amateur web journalists? First CNN's Jami Floyd went off on a bitter tirade about how an amateur YouTube blogger should not have filmed Condoleeza Rice talking about torture at a college symposium:
www.cnn.com/video/data/2.0/video/…
This leads us to question why CNN has never bothered to question the Secretary of State with such fervor and why we must rely on some guy with a YouTube account...
Then on Yahoo Answers, the Yamster's blog is all about questioning whether amateur journalists on the web are a good thing or a bad thing:
yanswersblog.com/index.php/archiv…
The Answers blog even goes so far as to suggest that we should not be watching internet videos of the protests in Iran, and should just remain ignorant of the situation.
Why is this even a question?
Shouldn't we be over-joyed that we finally get some useful candid footage that tells us the TRUTH for a change? |
Because they are afraid.
People are waking up to the reality that the corporate elite control both the government and the mass media --- and they (the people) are starting to detect the propaganda and censorship when they see it.
The mass media's days are numbered if the trend toward independent media and citizen journalism continues. They will do what they can to discredit and marginalize independent media while they still have an audience.
Expect the government to protect its propaganda machine by restricting access to independent media on the internet. The elite cannot keep control over the masses unless they can control the flow of information, and they are quickly losing control because of the internet.
Google already censors You Tube to remove political dissent. They leave enough of it standing to keep people from noticing.
In fact, Yahoo censors this forum with electronic monitoring. There are certain independent media links that cannot be used in a Yahoo Answers question. If used, Yahoo software censors the question with the result that nobody sees the question except the asker. That started last fall. |
Starting a blog, need advice on which service to use.? I'm looking for a blog service that will allow me to have TWO(or more) blogs linked to each other, and I would like to be able to generate a bit of revenue with AdSense. I would prefer a service that allows uploads of video as well.
Basically what I want to do is create two sports blogs, one covering the major events happening in the sport, and the other covering my own progress as I work to become better at the sport through training and competing in amateur competitions. I might also consider another blog for weight loss and fitness. I feel that I have the ability to write a successful blog as well as maintain it, its just the start up that I'm having trouble with. |

Is this biggest problem with amateur hockey? (or all amateur sports for that matter) ? Here is a link to the blog...
sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_da…
Here is a link to just the video...
www.youtube.com/watch?v=fI-sYE1Ds…
The background...
Michigan/Michigan State, one of the biggest rivalries in college hockey playing at the Yost arena. Michigan's Steve Kampfer delivers an open ice hit on Michigan State's Corey Tropp in the final minute of the game. I have watched the video several times, I see nothing majorly wrong with the hit.
Michigan State's Andrew Conboy comes in looking for retribution and takes Kampfer to the ice. There is no real good camera angle showing what exactly Conboy does to Kampfer. While he is on the ice, Tropp comes into the altercation and swings his stick at Kampfer's head/neck while he is laying on the ice.
Kampfer, who missed the first 15 games of the season with a fractured skull from an off-ice attack on campus before the season started spent some time in the hospital and was released. There do not appear to be any serious or lasting injuries. Both Michigan State players were suspended for the balance of the season plus the playoffs. There are 10 regular games remaining in the Spartan's season.
Here is the kicker (and cause for the title of my question) for me...
Kampfer's father made his way to the Michigan State locker room and confronted/went after Tropp.
What are your thoughts on the following questions:
What did you think of Kampfer's hit?
What did you think of Conboy's retaliation?
What did you think of Tropp's retaliation?
Were the suspensions appropriate? (Did the punishment fit the crime?)
Is parental over involvement involvement the biggest problem facing amateur sports today?
** It has now officially reached the highest level of amateur sports. |
Kampfer's hit was clean. What should have followed was a clean hockey hit (neither Tropp nor Conboy did this). The stick work was horrible.
Kids in college and juniors emulate what they see in the NHL, and what you're seeing a lot of now is guys who get hit, and feel the need to retaliate by either dropping the gloves or doing something like what Tropp and Conboy did. There's hitting, and some of the hits are open ice hits. Respond with a similar tough but clean hit, and lose the bush league crap.
The parent has no place in this. I already get this crap at work (I have 20-somethings who work under me, and I've had at least two people have their parents call me to complain about bad reviews). Your guy is an adult (18 or older in the US). At some point, you have to let the school, the CCHA, etc. deal with the process. This helicopter parent issue that you do a great job describing (and probably spend way too much time dealing with) is becoming far too prevalent.
I'd say a general lack of respect is probably the biggest issue. I look at how hockey referees are treated, and it makes me sick (rugby officials are treated with the highest respect; it's always "sir" and there's never any backchat or complaining). What happens when people decide "screw it, I'm tired of the crap" and stop officiating games? Maybe I'm weird, but I always thank the officials after our beer league games. They're not perfect (like any of us are?), but they do their best. |
A "Google Appropriate" blog? So much for my rant blog. I just read what this adsense thing is all about, and some of my articles contain a more-than-necessary amount of cursing. Well, I want to make some extra cash with adsense, so I need a Google appropriate blog. However, I can't think of something that people would want to read. Here are some of the things that I'm into. Could any of these form a blog that gets a good amount of traffic?
guitar
creative writing
video games
music
art
working out
Well, those are my main hobbies. I just don't see myself getting 100+ pageviews per day with people wanting to read amateur poetry or learn basic guitar. Am I wrong? |
Here's a blog that was started by a woman who wrote about two things - knitting and divorce: www.crazyauntpurl.com. Would 100 people want to read about knitting? Or divorce? Not at first. But she put her own personality and passion into it, and she got a few loyal followers. Today she has about 20,000 pageviews per day AND she got offered a publishing contract based on the content of her blog.
So the moral of this story is... focus on what you like the most and can have the most fun with, let your own unique personality shine, and let word of mouth work its internet magic! |
Should Adam PacMan Jones Be Thrown in Jail for Making it Rain? Adam PacMan Jones Makes It Rain video Never-before-released
bennyhollywood.com/blog/adam-pacman-jones-makes-it-rain-video.html
Never-before-released court documents and amateur video help provide the clearest picture yet of what happened inside a Las Vegas strip club on Feb. 19, 2007, when Adam “Pacman” Jones showered scantily clad dancers with money. Just minutes after “making it rain,” Jones was involved in a fight inside the club. A short time later, three people were shot outside the club. |
